What is WebXR?

WebXR turns a website into a virtual or mixed reality experience. Open a link in your headset's browser, press the VR button, and you are inside it, with nothing to download.

What is WebXR?

WebXR is a web standard, the WebXR Device API from the W3C, that lets a web page take over a VR or AR headset: it draws the scene for each eye, tracks your head and hands, and reads your controllers. It replaced the older WebVR.

Which headsets support WebXR?

Meta Quest headsets, through the Meta Quest Browser, Pico headsets through the Pico Browser, Android XR headsets through Chrome, and Apple Vision Pro through Safari, which supports immersive VR. PC VR headsets work through Chrome and Edge on the computer.

Do WebXR games cost anything?

Most are free. The ones on NXT/WebXR are all free, with no account and no payment.

Is WebXR as good as an app?

It is close, and it keeps getting closer. Dead Secret Circle, a native Quest game, was rebuilt for WebXR to show that the web can match native performance on a standalone headset. What the web adds is that a link is enough: no store, no download, and every player always has the latest version.

How do I build a WebXR game?

With the 3D web tools you may already know: three.js, A-Frame, Babylon.js, PlayCanvas, Wonderland Engine, Needle Engine, or Meta's Immersive Web SDK. Unity and Godot can export to WebXR too.

What can you play?

Shooters like HoloRange and Elysian, rhythm games like Moon Rider, escape rooms like The Escape Artist, painting with A-Painter, and games that play out in your own room in mixed reality. Browse all the games, or see how to play them on Meta Quest.
